Why my photography skills resulted in multiple reshares from the ABC to this day
“I was so impressed with your gentle and curious approach in bringing Bloss’ story to life this afternoon at Beef Australia; I look forward to reading your article. Here’s to working together these next few weeks.”
Journalist and hobby photographer, The Morning Bulletin
-
I went to a farm in the Somerset Region with two journalists, David Chen and Lucy Cooper, during the 2022 Australian milk price rise.
-
My role was to take photos of the farm’s cows and the talent, Bianca Woodford. These photos needed to work well with the story’s angle by visually communicating things that text alone just cannot do.
Some context: Bianca Woodford “is just one of three remaining dairy farmers in the Brisbane Valley district.”.
-
Third-generation dairy farmer, Bianca Woodford, had been through two floods in one year and supports the price rise. So these photos needed to portray the authentic, credible farmer experience and their resilience.
Photos of other talents/perspectives would also be present, so my photos needed to keep those perspectives in mind.
One perspective was that “green pastures could help with the dairy industry’s recovery”.
I took closeup/emotive photos of Bianca smiling to show resilience. And I took photos of the cows looking head on from a slightly upward angle to show their resilience.
